Let’s Play
You don’t have to look outside to see if it’s raining anymore
That crack in the window will clue you in for sure
You don’t have no place to go since you were laid off yesterday
Our soda’s generic, our stash is gone, but that don’t mean that we can’t play
“Do-dah-do-dah-dah-do-dah. Doot-dah-doodah-doodah-dah-doo,” I say
“Do-dah-do-dah-dah-do-dah” because the trumpet player’s moved far away
There’s a place inside your soul where the laughter do not reach
It’s hard to breech that inner core and you ain’t heard the words I preach
So find your fences and mend them, burn the candle at both ends then
Write down your thoughts and send them to friend when things are coming to an end
Another verse and a bridge maybe? No chorus methinks.

I always liked that song a lot but thought it was too short so yeah, another verse.
I had this song in my head all week! Have those last two lines always been there?
No, ma’am, they have not. The fences and candle bit have been floating in my head for years.
It amuses me that any of my little tunes would ever make it into any kind of rotation in someone’s head.
Oh, you don’t know the half of it.
Anyway, I’d love to hear a version with those lines in it. Any recording plans?
