Lollapalooza: Day 2 (Before)

First to recap some of yesterday…

Forget anything I said about Manchester Orchestra sounding like Death Cab for Cutie.  The one song I had was obviously not representative of their other works.  They’re more like a less interesting version of the Foo Fighters.  If I were back in high school I’d be all over this band.

Gaslight Anthem sound a lot like their album.  Not sure what’s with calling these guys neo-punk though.  Just because your lead singer has tattoos up and down his arms doesn’t make you punk.

Heartless Bastards are my new favorite band.  I was a little disappointed that they didn’t play “All This Time”, but everything they played was wonderful.  I anticipate picking up their other albums soon.

I was a litte late getting to Ben Folds set, but it was somewhat mediocre I felt.  Maybe he wasn’t in the mood to play Lollapalooza.  Still, good to see him live finally.

The Decemberists were great!  The material they played was so much better than the few songs I was familiar with from Picaresque. They don’t just play well, they really put on a performance.  Wearing their Sunday best they dance and stomp and make every effort to entertain.

Missed out most of Andrew Bird to try to recouperate and reengergize.

Depeche Mode was better than I expected, though there were times when I’d say to myself, “Oh, this is a Depeche Mode song?  Because I never really liked this song…”.  However, they did play “Personal Jesus” and “Never Let Me Down Again”, so that was cool.

Today I’m definitely showing up late.  The first band that I really want to see are the Arctic Monkeys at 4:30.  Then it’s TV on the Radio at 6:30 and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs at 8:30.

My phone went dead yesterday and none of my mobile Tweets went through.  It rained all day and my four dollar poncho was the investment of the week (despite Wendy’s/Arby’s rise in my portfolio on Friday).

This morning I’m gong to hang out in the City with my friend Mike probably starting at Frtiz Pastry and working our way out from there.
