Fun With Blockprinting! (Or Not)
Earlier this week I decided that my weekend project would be cleaning and blockprinting. No problem. At first I though I’d try some easy designs, something geometric, something simple, to make sure I knew what I was doing. Then a voice said, “Don’t be a wuss. It’s just block printing. Take some time and carve something neat.” So I mulled around trying to decide what that was and decided to do a skull. All the goth kids are buying block prints is what I hear.
So I’ve spent all this time carving out this skull on a 6 x 9 block, and come to find out that blockprinting isn’t as easy as it seems. I might not be so upset if they were printing too heavy, but most of my test prints have been entirely too light. The one I’m posting now is close to how I want it, but a little heavy around the teeth. I’m also not sure how clean I want it. A lot of the lines are happy accidents that you get with block printing…but I could get rid of them if I chose to do so.

That’s great! You could make prints and sell them on etsy – skulls are big there. You really need to jump in and try it. There are a lot of great artists on there.
