20×200
Today I throwing this link up with all the others because this is such a great idea. My beef with art is that making any effort to have some of your own gets real expensive real fast. You can still find deals on Etsy, but I like what is going on with 20×200 also.
Artwork sold through 20×200 is offered as limited edition prints. The breakdown is as follows: 200 prints on 8.5″ x 11″ paper sold for $20 each, 20 prints on 17″ x 22″ paper sold for $200 each, and 2 prints on 30″ x 40″ paper sold at $2000 each. Prints are on cotton paper with archival pigments and each comes with a signed and number certificate of authenticity. At left is Cul de Sac by Michelle Weinberg recently added in June.
The only problem I see with this (and maybe not a problem, maybe it’s just weird) is if you are selling the original work as well and don’t intend to sell it for as much as $2000. Maybe I’ve been underselling myself all these years, or maybe a print is worth more if it is larger than the original. If you start browsing the artwork for sale, I think it is maybe not surprising that many of the $2000 prints are still available. You’ll also find that many of the originals (photographs, paintings) are smaller than the 30″ x 40″ print, which means in the case of paintings/illustrations they are scanned or photographed at a high resolution in order to be blown up.
Still, if I ever get my act together and finish some a nice piece of art, I just might try my hand at being considered there. Lately I’ve been invloved in planning for something of a secret project. What’s the point in blogging if I’m going to be keeping secrets, right? Suffice to say the planned project is something of a sensitive nature and a big commitment if I’m going to take it on. Stay tuned.
